Quality South Australian Brussel Sprouts are coming through now, and sales are strong, even with the hot Perth weather lately.

Sweet Potato Gold from our Bundaberg farm is coming into very good supply now, and the price has eased over the last week. The quality on the new season stock is excellent, with good size and clean potatoes coming through.

Snow Peas

Planning is already underway for the programming of our local Snow Pea and Sugar Snap season which will commence in early May.

This year we will be growing 50% of our older Snow Pea variety and 50% of a new and exclusive variety, which we trialed last season on a smaller scale with much success. The new variety has a bigger yield, does not curl or puff up as the older variety does and they look superb. The new variety is clean, bright green, crisp and sweet. The new variety sell themselves simply put.

This season our farms will be growing these lines on a scale, bigger than before with increased demand and positive feedback we have experienced over the seasons.

We will also be stepping up our prepack range with new ideas on packaging and labelling.              So stay tuned, as there will be a few exciting things to look forward to, in the near future!

Roast Pumpkin Salad

Pumpkin Bread

We have a lot of new season pumpkin available in all of the three main varieties. (Butternut, Jarrahdale and Kent) Although it is a bit hot at the moment to be having roasts and soups, prices are extremely cheap and pumpkins can be roasted and put into salads for an interesting side dish, or put into casseroles. Perhaps even some pumpkin chips, or bake a loaf of bread!

Local Red Onions are available now and it will be a very strong season for them with plenty of volume and top quality. We have a new variety (red wing) that has been a very successful red onion in other growing regions but not previously grown in WA. This variety is rich and bright in colour and grows to an even consistent size making for great displays on the shelf.

Very nice Pineapples are coming through regularly again now and they have been very sweet to eat. Demand is strong though and pre-ordering at the moment is essential.

Green Cucumbers

The Geraldton Green Cucumber season has one week left to go, then we can expect South Australian fruit for a short period to fill the gap until the local produce kicks in from our Wanneroo farms. These extremely hot days ahead and forecast for the following week will see prices on the rise. Hot temperatures locally and in South Australia will cause the cucumbers to pale up over night and can also cause wrinkling and soft ends. This will result in less yield of good fruit, which will create shortages.

Stringless Beans

Stringless Bean prices are also already on the rise with prices more than doubling in the last few days. This is also due to heat. We will see the heat having an impact immediately on various vegetables and may see repercussions weeks from now from flowers being burnt or dropping off.

Brussel Sprouts

Local Brussel Sprouts season has finished, and the South Australian Brussel Sprouts are now on the market. Clean, very good quality Brussels coming through now. Although size is on the large side at the start of the season.

Seedless Watermelon

Seedless Watermelon from the south is eating well, with good colour and size.

Grape Tomatoes

With huge demand outweighing the supply of Grape Tomatoes over recent weeks, they have tightened right up and have caused prices to increase. This trend is expected to continue for the following 3 to 4 weeks until our second patch kicks in and is ready for picking. The variety planted at our Wanneroo Farm this year seems to enjoy the sun’s heat especially at the initial planting phase of the process as the flowers are doubling up 2 & 3 fold, which means we can expect abundance a few weeks from now. This should see prices easing for this superb variety of grape tomatoes.

Cherry Tomatoes on the other hand are in abundance and look to continue this way for another 2 weeks. They may tighten up when the grape tomatoes start flushing in so they will be a cheaper option until that happens.
