Quality Assurance

All produce supplied by Odeum subject to a strict quality specification that has been designed and implemented according to our customers' needs, which ensures the consistency of product quality and value for money for consumers.

To achieve this, the quality of our produce is monitored closely through the supply chain from grower to store assistant. To help maintain food safety and quality standards, processes such as "Would I buy it?" are employed which empowers anyone involved with the produce from harvesting, packing and distribution to retail outlets to reject any product which they themselves feel either has fallen below specification, or as a customer they would be dissatisfied with.

In order to ensure that standards are upheld or exceeded, Odeum has developed and implemented a number of internationally recognised food safety and quality assurance systems. These systems include a rigourous Approved Supplier Programme that is supported by a comprehensive analytical testing programme which is designed to guarantee the food safety of all produce that we supply.

The Odeum Quality Assurance system incorporates:
The WQA standard encompasses both food and consumer products supplied by local and international trade partners to Woolworths.

The SQF programme is a fully integrated food safety and quality management protocol designed specifically for the food sector. It has been the culmination of ten years of development and is designed specifically for the food industry with application at all links in the food supply chain.

SQF certification provides an independent and external validation and verification that a product, process or service complies with international and Australian regulatory and other specified standard(s). SQF enables a food supplier to give assurances that food has been produced, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards.

To achieve certification to HACCP, WQA, SQF-2000 and Coles requirements, Odeum has been required to develop, document and implement a Quality Management System that meets requirements of all of these standards and codes.

Odeum demonstrates compliance to the requirements of each code by submitting the Quality Management System to the scrutiny of a twice annual independent audit process.

In May 2007 the Coles Quality Team announced their decision to move to independant audits for housebrand products following a rigorous process of benchmarking and gap analysis with a cross section of current suppliers.

Odeum has been certified to SQF-2000 since 2001 as this was deemed the most appropriate code for this business model.

Odeum remains committed to trading with growers and suppliers who are certified to a Quality Assurance programme that will meet and/or exceed our customer requirements.
